Just keeping you currant!

I can't figure out what's more annoying right now, the never ending heat or Mercury retrograde, either way I have to deal with it so I am turning my focus to my favorite topic, dressing you!  As a former goth I love a black ensemble as much as you do, but pancake make-up and Siouxsie Sioux aside, it's time for us to start living in color.  If you are a Buxom regular then I am certain that you are familiar with my spiel and it goes like this...I am so tired of everyone thinking that full figured vixens have to wear black because it's slimming.  For you newbies, consider this your warning, I hate it when people insist on black because it make you look skinny.  I don't concentrate on making you look skinny, I want you to look good!  When I bring something black into my store it's because I am considering how it fits into your closet and works with your wardrobe to create new outfits, I am not trying to shave off 5lbs from your bodacious body.

In my effort to make good on my word I bring you one of my favorite colors, currant. Is it black, brown, or purple, well yes it is.  This post is featuring the Sympli currant dress just in from Canada!  You have seen it featured on the website paired with the olive bolero, clearly I dig purple and green together.  Here are a few more options to consider.
I pulled out my denim bolero...it's pretty special I know.  You don't have to use a bolero here, a jean jacket would be just as awesome.   The addition of denim makes this dress more casual.

I would so add this boot! This is the Silas from Nordstrom.  A boot does not have to be up to knee to be awesome, it also doesn't have to be black.

The next item I pulled from my closet is my faithful and always great ruffle cardi in gray.  I know, gray and currant is unexpected but oh so nice!  I belted the cardi to give some shape, don't be afraid of belts (I'm talking to you Coleen).

These are the boots I would wear to compliment the outfit that I just put together, again, these boots are not up to the knee but every bit as fashionable and trendy...maybe even more so.  These are the Vintage Studded boot from Frye, and they are pricey but they make me swoon!  I have some Frye boots and I can tell you that they never go out of style and last so long that you can pass them down to your grandchildren (in my case it will have to be Charlene's grandchildren).

'Cause I'm slow like honey, and heavy with mood. -Fiona Apple

I'm not going to lie to you, I've been in a bit of a funk.  I think I feel this way every August when I'm ready for fall and can't wait for summer to just be over. Is there a time of year when you find yourself carrying around a case of the blahs?

My first fall order is due to arrive any minute, and of course it's from Comfy!  I'm certain that some olive and eggplant tunics are just what the doctor ordered to help me out of my slump.  Never fear I will let you know as soon as it arrives because there are some pieces not to be missed.  Speaking of fall Comfy, I have pulled out a few gems from the back and marked them down, so if you are looking to kick off your fall shopping with a deal or two get down here!

Speaking of shopping did I tell you that I have been busy forming the coolest style team in Denver?  It's true.  Buxom as a boutique has been evolving into an amazing space that is full of fashionable pieces, but it can't be everything to everyone. I've been telling you that it's my goal to help you define your personal style and part of doing that involves bringing the right people into the picture to help!  I will be introducing them to you in the coming weeks, and will also be hosting a party here at the store showcasing the new team. My date is not yet set in stone, but it will be early September!

(I snagged this from the Vogue Curvy blog...because I love it and because I can't
post here without giving something awesome and inspiring to look at!)

Chelsea Lately...

I first met Chelsea at one of my after hours parties here at the store, she was wearing a hoodie.Little did I know that hiding under that oversized sweatshirt was a budding fashionista and a bombshell in the making. I've watched Chelsea grow her personal style and wardrobe over the last year and it's changed her in more ways than just what she sees in the mirror. I am honored and excited to have shared in her transformation over this last year, and I am so privileged to tell you a bit more about this gorgeous woman!
Chelsea, 22 years old and a recent graduate from DU, is the single girl about town. You're likely to find her on a Saturday night running around the city enjoying a cocktail or two with her friends, unless of course it's hockey season; you will find her in one place, DU cheering on her boys!

(Chelsea in her blue FashionLove maxie dress from Buxom)
Occupation:: Regional Membership Manager for Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity.
Describe your personal style::I like to always look good no matter where I go. Just because I have curves does not mean that I need to hide behind big baggie shirts. As buxom women, we should be proud of what we have accomplished in our lives not matter if we are a size 12 or 22. I am young and am ok with my curves so I love to show them off in a professional manner at work and in a more fun manner for my nightly activities such as going to bars, movies etc. If it is not comfortable, you will not find it on me. If I had to describe my fashion I would say I am a recent post college chic dress haha.

To spanx or not to spanx:: I'm a big fan of not to spanx, you will very rarely find me in a set of spanx unless it was absolutely necessary for an outfit. However, I appreciate what spanx can do and use them when I need them.

Do you have a signature fragrance::Delices De Cartier. Its a feminine, sexy fragrance that turns heads.

What is the one item in your closet that you can't live without:: My Comfy USA dress collection.

Favorite plus size designer:: Oh gosh, Comfy USA, Kiyonna are my absolute favorites. I pretty much buy Bree out of what they have.

Who is your style icon:: Oh this is tough. Jackie Kennedy and Marlene Dietrich. They both were able to take the fashion of their eras and tailor it to their own liking. They were not afraid to stand out for being fashionable and feminine.

Do you prefer prints or solids::  I prefer prints most times, but color blocking some solid pieces together is super fun too.

What is your dream job::  Well I have two dream jobs, the first is a general manager of an NHL team, the second would be the President of the United States.

Buxom Basics 1.1

I never stand in my closet full of clothes and complain that I have nothing to wear.  Finally I have reached a point where I am in love with each item in my closet, and just about everything works together.  Sure it seems that I am at an advantage since I own a clothing boutique, but it's just as easy for me to stock pile items that don't compliment my personal style, bodacious figure, or my budget.
The fine art of quality over quantity is something to be desired and should be your mindset when it comes to adding items to your closet.  Don't be afraid to define quality on your own terms.  Some would consider certain expensive name brands to be quality based on nothing more than a label, if that's your idea of quality certainly go with it. A quality item in my closet is a piece that can be worn over and over in different ways and will help transform other clothes into new outfits.  I enjoy items that keep their shape and color, sometimes these pieces are funky and sometimes they are simple.
Since it's my prerogative and responsibility to help you build the best wardrobe possible expect to see regular blog posts that will guide you in this goal.  You will also notice this theme when you come into the store, shopping should be a fruitful and exciting experience.  I want you to fall in love with your closet! It probably won't be easy and it certainly won't happen in a day but it can be as fun and as painless as you allow it to be.
One of the best places to start is with some basic pieces.  Basic does not have to mean boring or even traditional.

This is the AnnaFesta cowl neck top in celery, and it's my favorite thing ever from Denver designer Anne Fanganello.  Now it may not be your color, and luckily it comes in many colors, but the design is what's key.  This top is perfect on it's own or under a jacket. It's not bulky or too long, hitting right at the waist. The neckline is appropriate for work, interviews, and speaking engagements because it's not plunging in the front.
If you are busty like I am then you already know that a button-front is probably not a basic option for you, not to mention most of them are made from stiff cotton and can feel bulky when layering.  This top is soft and breathable and easy to layer.  It's comfortable and stylish.  Stay tuned for fall when new prints and solids will be offered.

bienvenue à buxom!

Let's face it, I missed you and I sort of feel like you missed me too! So the old Buxom typepad site has been vacant for a spin while I've been working on my new website, which is done by the way just not yet live!
The new site will allow you shop with us via the internet...but I hope you gorgeous Denver fashionistas still come in to see me! I can't stress enough how important fit is, and to find the best fit you really have to try things on.  So leave your inhibitions at the door and try on something new that you wouldn't normally flock too.
Like the past posts, I will continue to let you know what's new by posting here, but hope that you rely on the website to view all of the details and updates on the goodies!  I want to use the blog to hoist you up into the world of fashion and style!
Shall we jump in?
This is the black trench dress, just in.  You know my take on all black...it better be special, and this is.  Although we are calling this a dress, it's more like tunic and looks great with some bright leggings!  Last night Miss Kitty Mae herself rocked this with her signature hot pink at the AP2 Ball.
Also new to the store is this funky stripe top.  Now is the time to start thinking about great layering pieces that will flow into your fall wardrobe.  I am the first to admit that the fit on this is pretty different from anything else you have!  It looks great layered over dresses, but also works well with jeans & trousers.
Ok, lets not wait so long to chat again!
